AI Website Go-Live Checklist

Every check between an AI-built site and a launch that holds up. Each item says how to verify it, not just what to check. Most of it written while shipping this site.

AI Website Go-Live Checklist preview

Everything to check before an AI-built site goes public, in 67 checks: search engines, being readable by the AI models people now ask instead of Google, performance, accessibility, privacy, and the week after launch.

Work top to bottom. The 9 checks under Blocking will cost you traffic, money or trust on day one if you miss them; everything else can follow in the first week. Every item says how to check it, not just what to check, because a checklist you can’t verify is a wish list.

It also covers the part most checklists still skip: being readable by AI. Many AI crawlers run no JavaScript at all, and AI tools default to rendering content in the browser, so an AI-built site can look empty to them. The checklist shows how to test that with one command, and what to put in robots.txt and llms.txt.

Free to use, share and adapt. If it saves you a bad launch, that’s the point.

if you only have an hour

The five that break launches.

  1. robots.txt still says Disallow: /.

  2. The content isn’t in the HTML, so AI crawlers see an empty page.

  3. The form posts nowhere.

  4. Both www and bare domain serve the site, splitting every signal.

  5. The hero image is 4MB.

what’s inside

67 checks in seven sections.

  1. Blocking

What costs traffic, money or trust on day one: a site that’s actually reachable, a robots.txt that lets crawlers in, no stray noindex, one hostname on HTTPS, forms that deliver, and nothing secret in the deploy.

    9 checks
  2. Search engines

Indexability, titles and descriptions written to earn the click, and structured data that says exactly what the page says.

    15 checks
  3. Being readable by AI

Your words in the HTML, a URL for every page, robots.txt rules for each AI crawler, an llms.txt, and facts stated plainly enough to quote.

    8 checks
  4. Performance

LCP, CLS and INP, measured on production, and how to get there: images, fonts, JavaScript, video, caching and compression.

    11 checks
  5. Accessibility

Keyboard, focus, contrast, alt text, labels, headings, landmarks, reduced motion and zoom, then what automated audits can’t check.

    12 checks
  6. Analytics, privacy and the legal bits

Analytics that leaves out your own visits, goals on what matters, a privacy policy that matches what you collect, and consent done properly.

    6 checks
  7. The day after

Search Console and Bing, the coverage report, a week of watching 404s, uptime monitoring, and asking a model what it says about you.

Or have it built for you.

A template gets you most of the way there. If you’d rather the whole thing were designed and built around what you actually do, that’s the day job, and it starts with a conversation.
